Directions to Pipi Valley

Pipi Valley is an area within the Eldorado National Forest.  Pipi is actually the name of the improved campground in this area, but our OHV staging area is past this campground.  The trail systems we ride are called Elkins Flat and Goldnote trail systems.  Generally, we have camped and staged out of Elkins Flat, but the land is open for use, and you can camp and stage from anywhere in the area except the Pipi campground.  To get to the Elkins Flat staging area:

·        Take Ca-99 north to Waterloo Rd/Ca-88.  This exit is 2 miles north of where Ca-4 connects the I-5 and Ca-99.

·        Exit East on Waterloo Rd/Ca-88, toward Jackson.  So, you will be turning right once you exit the freeway.

·        Follow Ca-88 through the towns of Jackson, Pine Grove, and Pioneer.

·        About 11 miles past Pine Grove, there will be a well marked left turn off for Omo Ranch Road.  Go left here.

·        About a mile in on Omo Ranch Rd there will be a right turn onto Pipi Rd to get to the Pipi campground.  Go right here.

·        You will follow Pipi Rd for about 6 miles until you get to the bottom of the valley, where you will come across a river, a bridge, and the Pipi campground.  Along the way, before you reach the bridge, you will have past an area called “5 corners”, which is an intersection of trails.  This is a popular staging area, and there’s a trail map posted on the right side of the road.

·        Turn right after reaching the bridge and continue for about 3 miles.  You will reach an unmarked left turn-off to a dirt road that leads to a couple camp spots and an outdoor toilet.  Go left here.  There is a sign that reads “Elkins Flat” about 50 feet after this dirt road.  If you see the sign, you’ll have to backtrack a little bit.  Follow the dirt road in about a quarter mile, past the bathroom, and you’ll reach a clear cut area.  This is usually where we camp.
